Clean, renewable energy to future-proof operations and reduce carbon footprint

One of the UK’s leading manufacturers of metalworking fluids to the lubricant and maintenance chemical industries, Congleton-based Olenol combines 30 years’ experience with a progressive approach to new ideas and technologies.

And that is evident in a major project to revitalise its site which has included not only renovations and new branding, but also a cutting edge installation of solar panels from local experts SCA Solar to power its future sustainability. As Olenol Director Steven Brough explains: ‘This has been more than just an upgrade, it’s a commitment to innovation, responsibility and building a greener tomorrow for our team, customers and community.

‘Here’s to harnessing the sun for a brighter, more sustainable future!’

Industry’s choice for metalworking fluids and lubricants

Olenol produces and supplies metalworking fluids and lubricants. Their products include semi-synthetic cutting fluids, corrosion inhibitors, silicone lubricants, graphited lubricants, grinding fluids, soluble oil bases, synthetic lubricants, rust preventatives, fire resistant hydraulic fluids, metal forming pastes, air mist lubricants, drilling and tapping pastes.

Committed to manufacturing excellence in its own business, Olenol was looking for a partner which shared its values to support the sustainability aspect of Project Helios – the name given to its site revitalisation programme.

Sustainability partner SCA Solar

It found that partner in SCA Solar, another Cheshire-based firm which has built a business around its passion for revolutionising the way we power our world.

Says Director Shaun Giltrap: ‘We highly value our partnerships with industry leaders who share our vision of a sustainable future powered by renewable energy.

’Not only is Olenol reducing its carbon footprint, but this system will pay for itself in about five years – which means the savings will go on growing as energy prices rise.’

Solar panel installation with inbuilt scope for upgrade

Recognising Olenol’s commitment to future-proofing, SCA proposed a £19.8kW system to help power the firm today – but with options to take advantage of further technology at a later date.

It comprised 44 x 450-watt solar photovoltaic panels on the factory roof – with a hybrid inverter, which means it will be possible to add battery storage to the system at some time in the future.

Describing what is involved, SCA Solar Director Shaun Giltrap said:’Like all inverters, a hybrid solar inverter manages the flow of energy between the solar panels and the electrical grid – but this kind of model also allows batteries to be integrated into the system, whether simply to store surplus power or to provide backup power during grid outages.’

Calculations model realistic ROI

SCA Solar is proud of its reputation as a quality installer and is certified by the solar standards organisation MCS (our number is NAP-9953). Part of its reputation comes from its commitment to providing realistic Return on Investment (ROI) projections with every system quotation.

In Shaun’s own words:’Our quotes always include full breakdown showing savings potential and how long it is likely to take for an installation to pay for itself: we won’t recommend a system unless we think the client will genuinely benefit.’

Passion for the planet underpinned by cutting edge technology

Technologies have moved on and improved exponentially since SCA Solar was formed in 2012 – but the ethos behind the foundation of the company hasn’t changed.

Shaun and his team know that clean, sustainable energy makes sound business sense – but they are also committed to sustainability and preserving our planet in this challenging age of global warming.

They say ‘Together, let’s pave the way to a brighter, greener, carbon-neutral tomorrow!’

Commercial, agricultural and domestic installations

While SCA Solar is experienced in large scale commercial and agricultural systems, it also has a proven track record in the domestic market. With ever rising energy prices, many home owners are exploring solar panel and smart battery storage options, to future-proof their electricity bills.

This can be of particular benefit for electric cars drivers who have the option to install EV charging points at home. So, if going green is something you have been thinking about, why not get in touch?’ We’ll tell you if it makes sense for your environment and circumstances – and indeed if going green can save you money!
